This past month has been the most ill in our lives yet. Shortly after Halloween, I started feeling under the weather. 3 weeks later, that continued and eventually turned into bronchitis. Pretty much as soon as I started feeling better Lilia got sick.
Our first indication that she was sick happened in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Tiffaney has started working Monday's now (in addition to Saturday's) and our girls had spent that Monday with their friends Zaylee & Thomas Basker. It had been two weeks since they had last been with the Basker's because the week before they had pink eye. Anyway, by Wednesday Lilia had snot pouring our of her nose and was clearly ill, but more than that, she had eye goop literally flowing from her tear ducts!! We couldn't keep up with the vast amounts of goop she was producing! I mean, I think that she seriously must have lost weight making that much goop!!
Our first thought was naturally that somehow, even though the Baskers had already gotten over their sickness before the girls went over there, Lilia must have gotten pink eye. The only problem with this theory was that Lilia's eyes weren't pink...jut goopy. We took her to the doctor the day after Thanksgiving to find out that it wasn't actually pink eye; the goop coming out of her tear ducts was actually SNOT!! Who knew that you could clog your sinuses so much that the pressure would push snot out of your tear ducts?! EWWWW!!!!
At least we were able to go to the doctor's and figure out what was going on. Her doctor prescribed Amoxicillin for a severe sinus infection and we were supposed to be good! Au contraire!!! Five days later, Lilia's whole body gets puffy and she has a rash over her whole body - she looks like a wee human strawberry. Once again, Tiffaney treks out to visit Dr. Loomis to learn that Lilia is actually allergic to penicillin and she has to stop taking her medicine for the sinus infection immediately. Thankfully, even though Lilia was supposed to take the medication for 10 days Dr. Loomis said that she had had enough to fight the infection - she just needs Benedryl for the foreseeable future to help her until the Amoxicillin works itself out of her body.
To continue the saga, after that all happened, about Thursday Tiffaney (who had been feeling unwell for most of the week) finally reached a crisis point and by that evening was feeling so bad that she also decided to go to have a doctor check it out. She went to our regular doctor's office first, but it was so full that she decided to go to the local Wal-Mart instead and have the Quick Care doctors check her out instead. It turns out that Tiffaney has strep throat, abscessed tonsils, an ear infection, and a fever from her body trying to fight all of that off.
Friday brought even more sickness when Carolyn (whose been coughing to try and get sympathy & attention from us for a while) woke up with pink eyes and goop flowing from them. Her eyes are very tender and (now that we're experts in eye goop) we can tell that it has a much different consistency than Lilia's. Her eyes look pink, but we're not sure if that's from her rubbing them or, if it's an actual sign of illness. We know that her eyes do tend to react poorly to Nelson (her adopted stray pet cat) and lately she has taken to rubbing her FACE in the cat's fur every chance she gets!!
We tried just giving Carolyn Benedryl Friday and Saturday, and it seems to have helped, though not as much as we would have liked. When we had taken Lilia in, her doctor gave us a prescription for pink eye medication "just in case." We filled it last night (again, just in case), but we're thinking (hoping) that it won't be necessary.
Now to top everything off, my eyes are feeling tender, scratchy, and keep on producing sleepies! Though I admit that my condition may very well be psycho-somatic.
